Beware of SB 170

The following is an interesting excerpt taken from the Utah League of Cities and Towns webpage regarding SB 170:

On another serious note, local government representatives and the Private Property Ombudsman met with the proponents of SB 170,  Local Government Land Use and Impact Fee Revisions.  SB 170 is a bill drafted by attorneys representing the Utah Property Rights Coalition without input from local officials. The Utah Property Rights Coalition is a loose association of 12 real estate development and homebuilding businesses who would like to tilt the balance of land use regulation in their favor.

The parties discussed issues represented in SB170 and resolved that there may be future opportunities to reach consensus on several issues.  All participants agreed that SB 170 was unworkable as drafted and that a more consensus-oriented approach would serve the long term interests of all parties.

Both sides retired from the 4 hour discussion to assess whether the parties can step away from SB 170, tone down the rhetoric spawned by the bill and bridge a wide gap of trust with one another throughout the remainder of the legislative session.  Stay tuned!
