Just like the little girl with white hair in front of the snowy, crackling TV, I have come back from the blog cemetery or the grave in an overbuilt subdivision. (But not built over an ancient burial ground, I hope). Last night before a City Council Meeting, Barbara Christiansen, from The Herald, my friend (but neutral journalist), neighbor and client said; "Shirl, did you know your blog is inviting people to Steel Days IN 2008?" HINT, hint. Well I knew it had been awhile, in fact as it turns out a 364 day sabbatical. Tooo long. Some reasons er excuses --- work, family, church, teaching a high school Government and Civics class, being involved in AFHS athletics (basketball and golf), AF City Council work, etc. Even my golf game has taken a hacking.
So here it is, my mea culpa. I have discovered facebook, the equivalent of a microwave and even Twitter the micro of microwaves. But something is different in those mediums, unlike a blog. I am not sure what. We will explore that a little more in upcoming posts. I hope to earn back your readership. The only promise I will make is to blog more regularly (at least weekly, not weakly) and to try and make it interesting. I will need your help.
This Blog will be devoted mainly to American Fork City government and policy. (Yes there will be some site renovations and updating; Pardon our Dust). Other things will be dealt with in a lesser focus, such as sports (i.e. The Open (Golf) Championship starts tomorrow at Turnberry, Scotland, a course I played and loved in 2006); and certainly, a little randomness as well. There is much to talk about; The 2009 City Elections, our shrinking cemetery (intro nothwithstanding), I-15 rebuild around AF, sewer rates, water and PI, free enterprise issues, national *sigh* and state politics, AF city governance, basketball and newsworthy items and events. So, thanks Barbara for the little nudge; I'm baaack, please be baack with me. Comments and input are most welcome. And . . . . .
WELCOME to the 2009 American Fork Steel Days celebration. www.afsteeldays.com. The carnival starts tomorrow 7/16 from noon to 10:30, the Art Show opens at the library, the Youth Theater is showing "Cinderella" at the Town Cinema, The Baby Contest 10 am at Robinson Park and don't forget the Doll and Quilt Show at the Sr. Center.
Probably not cool to be the first commentator after a 364 day absence. But please excuse the awkwardness of the above post. I've got to get my bloglegs back. Grammars not the best either. I know people are judged by the words they say and write (sounds like a commercial). Please be patient.
